A drug-related study done by Duke University showed that acupuncture is more effective in treating headaches than drugs like aspirin. The study which involved approximately 4,000 patients with migraine, tension and other forms of chronic headaches found that 62% of the acupuncture patients reported headache relief compared to 45% of those taking headache medicines. <p>According to scientists at the University of Chicago who monitored 500 healthy volunteers in their mid 40&#8242;s, sleep is important for a healthy heart. Twenty-seven percent of those who slept 5 hours or less developed coronary artery calcification within 5 years. However, only 6% of the volunteers who slept 7 hours or more developed the calcification which is a strong marker for heart disease. <strong>Cholesterol</strong></p>
<p>Keep your cholesterol under check. If both your parents have high cholesterol, get yours checked when you are in your late twenties. If you haven&#8217;t been exercising adequately and have been indulging yourself with generous helpings of cakes, mithai, butter, fried food and other forms of saturated fats, chances are, your cholesterol may be high as well. Take your reports to an endocrinologist. It is best if you get an entire lipid profile check rather than just a total cholesterol test. A lipid profile will give you a detailed break-up of the various kinds of cholesterol in your body, and your doctor can medicate you accordingly. You will need to go on an empty stomach in the morning (after a 10 to 12 hour fast) for a lipid profile blood test, or results may be inaccurate.</p>
<p>If your cholesterol is high, you may prefer to stay off medication and try and reduce the levels through lifestyle changes. Although this is commendable, medication is very effective and can help lower cholesterol to a great degree &#8211; thus tremendously reducing your chances of a heart attack. In fact it has often been suggested that practitioners should prescribe cholesterol-lowering drugs more regularly than they do.</p>
<p>These drugs should be used in combination with diet and exercise.</p>
<p><strong>Exercise</strong></p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to run the marathon to be heart-healthy, but some form of exercise for at least half an hour, a minimum of four times a week, helps keep your heart fit. Even a brisk walk around the block does the trick, as long as you ensure you walk at such a pace so as to increase your heart rate &#8211; and hold that pace for around 25 minutes. Swimming is also provides a great cardiovascular workout.</p>
<p><strong>Diet</strong></p>
<p>If you still haven&#8217;t started calling for double-toned or skimmed milk, do so now. You don&#8217;t need all that extra fat in your body! Stay away from cookies, they are filled with &#8216;maida&#8217; and butter. Similarly, skip the butter on your toast and stay away from pizzas topped with cheese. Opt for tomato-based pastas when eating out.</p>

The fruit is considered an adaptogenic that improves immunity.</p>
<p>Dosage</p>
<p>1 or 2 capsules twice daily with meals. Allow several weeks for long lasting benefits. Natural products treat not just the symptoms but the body as a whole and take time for absorption and results.<br />
Amla Research and Clinical Studies</p>
<p>Amla has been identified to have potent antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antistress properties. Apart from its medicinal use it is widely used in traditional hair and skin care formulations. Aside from Vitamin C, Amla&#8217;s mineral and vitamin contents include calcium, Phosphorous, iron, carotene, carbohydrate, thiamine, riboflavin. Its strong antioxidant properties are due to its small molecular weight tannoid complexes.</p>
<p>In a study carried out by scientists at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nagasaki University, in Japan, amla extracts were found to be able to prevent the growth of cancerous cells in the stomach, skin and womb (Biol Pharm Bull. 2004 Feb;27(2):251-5).</p>
<p>Scientists from the Biochemistry Division, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, in India, found that amla is able to block a chemical called aldose reductase, which has been heavily implicated in causing cataracts in diabetic patients (Mol Vis. 2004 Mar 12;10:148-54).</p>
<p>Several animal studies have shown that amla can help prevent a toxic build-up of heavy metals &#8211; caused by frequent exposure to metals like aluminium, lead and nickel. When vitamin C alone was used &#8211; equivalent to that found in amla fruit &#8211; only partial protection from heavy metals was provided. However, when the whole amla fruit was used almost complete protection was achieved. This indicates that it is the combined action of the various ingredients found in the fruit that effectively helps shield DNA from heavy metal poisoning (Dhir, H.A. Agarwal; A. Sharma, and G. Talukder. Cancer Letters 59.9 18, 1991; Giri, A.K. Cytologia 51, pp 375-380, 1986).</p>
<p>Clinical studies were conducted to investigate the effect of Amalaki in amlapitta (gastritis syndrome). Amalaki churna was given in 20 cases in a dose of 3g., thrice a day for seven days. The drug was found effective in 85 per cent of cases. Cases of hyperchlorhydria with burning sensation in abdominal and cardiac regions and epigastric pain were benefited.</p>
<p>Scientists at the Division of Pharmacology, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, India, evaluated the efficacy of Amla fruit against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) and thioacetamide (TAA) induced changes in rat liver. Chronic treatment of CCl4 and TAA revealed abnormal histopathology indicative of pre-fibrogenic events. Extract of Amla reversed such alterations with significant regenerative changes suggestive of its preventive role in prefibrogenesis of liver.</p>

It seems physical strength, competitive edge, and ability to deal with stress is found in women who have fat that has migrated from their hips to their tummy area, causing them to have more of a cylindrical shape. However, both shapes do have their advantages. </p>
<p>The report has been published in the December issue of Current Anthropology. The <strong>hormones</strong> that make women physically stronger, more competitive and better able to deal with stress<br />
also tend to redistribute fat from the hips to the waist, according to Elizabeth Cashdan, an anthropologist at the University of Utah.<br />

So in societies and situations where women are under pressure to procure resources, they may be less likely to have the classic hourglass figure.</p>
<p>Cashdan&#8217;s hypothesis aims to explain a peculiar observation. Women around the world tend to have larger waist-to-hip ratios”more cylindrical rather than hourglass-shaped bodies”than is considered optimal.</p>
<p>Medical studies have shown that a curvy waist-to-hip ratio of 0.7 or lower is associated with higher fertility and lower rates of chronic disease. Studies have also shown that men prefer a ratio of 0.7 or lower when looking for a mate.</p>
<p>The preference makes perfect sense, according to evolutionary psychologists, because the low ratio is a reliable signal of a healthy, <strong>fertile woman</strong>.</p>
<p>But in data that Cashdan compiled from 33 non-Western populations and 4 European populations, the average waist-to-hip ratio for women is above 0.8. If 0.7 is the magic number both in terms of health and male mate choice, why are most women significantly higher? That&#8217;s where the hormones come in.</p>
<p>Androgens, a class of hormones that includes testosterone, increase waist-to-hip ratios in women by increasing visceral fat, which is carried around the waist. But on the upside, increased androgen levels are also associated with increased strength, stamina, and competitiveness. Cortisol, a hormone that helps the body deal with stressful situations, also increases fat carried around the waist.</p>
<p>&#8220;The hormonal profile associated with high WHR (waist-to-hip ratio) may favour success in resource competition, particularly under stressful circumstances,&#8221; writes Cashdan.</p>
<p>&#8220;The <strong>androgenic effects</strong>”stamina, initiative, risk-proneness, assertiveness, dominance”should be particularly useful where a woman must depend on her own resources to support herself and her family, the expert added.</p>
<p>In other words, trading the benefits of a thin waist for better ability to collect resources may be a good deal in certain societies and situations. And there is evidence that male mate preferences may reflect this trade-off, according to Cashdan. </p>

Method of treatment<br />
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water<br />
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute<br />
3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.<br />
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours<br />
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.<br />
