There are also numerous weight loss tips and guidelines to help you lose weight. <p>This has nothing to do with healthy eating guidelines or exercise intervals. It has to do with recovery and your downtime. How much sleep do you get each and every night? The make or break tip to your weight loss success could be by the amount of sleep you get. Research studies are showing that those who are sleep deprived have higher levels of bodyfat compared to those who get adequate sleep each night.<br />

 Studies have also linked a lack of sleep to hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. A study in the American Journal of Epidemiology followed 68,000 Americans for 16 years and found that those who got five hours or less of sleep per night were one third more likely to gain 30 plus pounds over the course of the study than those who slept seven hours or longer.</p>
<p> Another study Stanford University reported that subjects who slept the least had higher levels of bodyfat than those who slept 8 hours or more. The commonalities that both studies have are that the participants who lacked sleep had lower levels of the hormone leptin and higher levels of the hormone ghrelin. Leptin is produced primarily by the fat cells and this hormone works to decrease hunger and increase your metabolic rate. The hormone Ghrelin is produced by the gastrointestinal tract and increases your hunger. This is an imbalance of two key hormones that affect your body type and whether you gain weight or not. The simple answer to correct this is to obviously sleep more. There are other things you can and should be doing to keep your leptin level elevated and your ghrelin level low, but the most often overlooked weight loss tip is sleep. Sleep is something we wish we could do more of and just never seem to get it because we are all very busy. If you are one who struggles with losing weight. You have tried healthy weight loss diet after diet and you still seem to struggle with your weight loss than I suggest this. You should record how much sleep you get each night for one week. Before you go to bed each night evaluate how your day was. Were you tired? Did you wake up refreshed? Did you feel that you needed more sleep? After this one week of recording your sleep look at how many hours on average you slept each night. If it wasn&#8217;t 7 hours then make it a goal to average 7 hours of sleep a night. If you did average 7 hours and you still felt tired every morning then work to increase that average to 8 hours and see how you feel. Every person is a little different when it comes to required restful sleep. You may need to experiment with this a little. If you are serious about permanently losing weight though I suggest you make increasing your sleep a priority or everything else you do to lose weight may be for nothing. </p>

Once the decision is made, the next step taken is to research their possible diet options. This may involve speaking with people, reading magazine articles or visiting their local book store in order to find the &#8216;holy grail&#8217; of diets- the diet that is guaranteed to shed fat off their body quickly and with little effort.</p>
<p>Of course a diet-only approach to fat loss is futile in itself but to make matters worse, dieters often become hopelessly confused about what to eat for the best results. Should they reduce their fat intake? Cut out all their carbohydrates? Eat only soup for a few days? Eat based on their blood type? Follow a de-tox diet? Liver cleansing? The options are endless.<br />

The area that probably has dieters baffled the most is the issue of carbohydrates. Currently there are two dominant schools of thought when it comes to carbohydrate consumption.</p>
<p>On the one hand, we have dietitians and nutritionists telling us for the last 20 years that carbohydrates don&#8217;t make us fat. This view is clearly stated in their promotion of the USDA&#8217;s Food Pyramid and in more recent times, The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating pie chart. Both of these food guides recommend the majority of food intake come from refined carbohydrate sources, like bread, pasta, rice, cereals and other grain-based food products. In fact, the USDA Food Pyramid recommends we eat 6-11 serves a day of these carbohydrate sources in order to have a healthy diet! The advocates of this style of eating are often heard to say things like, &#8216;Carbohydrates don&#8217;t make you fat, it is what you put on them that makes you fat.&#8217; Examples include, sour cream on potatoes or butter on bread.</p>
<p>On the other hand, there are the advocates of low-carb diets. Popularised by Dr Robert Atkins in the 70&#8242;s (even though their use has been documented for at least 150 years), low-carb eating appears to be experiencing a re-surgence. This is due mainly to the fact that many Hollywood celebrities have confessed to using them to achieve their movie-star bodies. As a result, the market is being flooded with low-carb diet books and an amazing array of low-carb products, including meal replacement bars, cookies, muffin mixes, cereal products, pizza bases and many others. Often these diets allow an almost unlimited amount of food so long as carbohydrates are restricted.</p>
<p>These diametrically opposed views often leave people hopelessly confused about what to eat to achieve maximum fat loss. In this article I hope to clear up the confusion so you can enjoy your food whilst at the same time lose all the body fat you want.</p>
<p>Insulin and glucagon</p>
<p>In considering carbohydrate and its affect on our body fat stores, we must firstly understand the function of two hormones, insulin and glucagon. Both of these hormones are produced by the pancreas (an organ that sits behind the stomach) and work in concert to regulate our blood glucose level. For example, when our blood glucose level rises (after a meal), insulin is the hormone responsible for storing the glucose and normalising the blood glucose level. When the blood glucose level falls, glucagon promotes the release of glucose from the liver, bringing the level back up again.</p>
<p>For fat loss to occur, insulin release must be minimised as much as possible because of the effects it has in the body, which include:</p>
<p>• Promotes the storage of nutrients in cells (positive effect- anabolic).<br />
• Promotes the storage of fat in the adipocytes (fat cells).<br />
• Promotes the uptakes of glucose into the adipocytes and their conversion into fat.<br />
• Increases the activity of fat manufacturing and fat storing and enzymes (lipoprotein lipase &#8211; LPL and fatty acid synthase &#8211; FAS).<br />
• Inhibits the release of fat from the adipocytes (which could be used as a fuel source).</p>
<p>Insulin is released as a result of mainly two factors and the amount of insulin released is in direct proportion to these two factors.</p>
<p>•The size of a meal.<br />
•The amount of glucose in the bloodstream.</p>
<p>Accordingly, eating smaller, more frequent meals may help to reduce the insulin response (i.e. eat 5 small meals a day).</p>
<p>Also, regulating the amount of glucose entering the bloodstream will help. This may be achieved by:</p>
<p>• Reducing the portion of carbohydrate in each meal.<br />
• Emphasising low Glycaemic Index (GI) carbohydrates.<br />
• Emphasising low-density carbohydrates.<br />
• Ensuring each meal contains a portion of protein, fat and fibre as well as the carbohydrate.</p>
<p>Reducing the portion of carbohydrate in each meal</p>
<p>Since insulin is released in response to an increase in blood glucose and fat loss will be maximised if insulin is low, people may be forgiven for thinking that a low-carb diet is the answer. Whilst it is true that these diets do promote fat loss, I do not recommend them for the following reasons:</p>
<p>•They are too hard to sustain long-term.<br />
•They may lead to deficiency diseases due to their avoidance of fruits and vegetables.<br />
•They may negatively affect bodily functions due to a reduced fibre intake and possible high intakes of saturated fat and cholesterol.</p>
<p>Despite the possible negative consequences of low-carb diets, the overall philosophy of reduced insulin response is sound. Therefore, people wanting to lose bodyfat should reduce (without eliminating) their portion sizes of carbohydrate in every meal.</p>
<p>Emphasising low Glycaemic Index (GI) carbohydrates</p>
<p>The GI is a score given to carbohydrate-containing foods based on how rapidly they cause a rise in blood glucose after being consumed. A high GI means the food causes a rapid rise in blood glucose and a low GI means the food causes a more sustained release of glucose into the bloodstream.</p>
<p>Since a rise in blood glucose promotes insulin release we should emphasise low GI carbohydrates in our diet. See Table 1 for more information.</p>
<p>Emphasising low-density carbohydrates</p>
<p>Carbohydrate density describes the amount of carbohydrate a food contains per serve. For example, pasta (high-density) contains 76.5 grams of carbohydrate per 100 grams whilst broccoli contains a minuscule 0.5 grams per 100 grams. Obviously the greater the carbohydrate density the greater the likelihood of the food causing a rapid rise in blood glucose, and in turn, insulin as well. See Table 2 for more information.</p>
<p>Ensuring each meal contains a portion of protein, fat and fibre</p>
<p>Not only does having protein, fat and fibre with the carbohydrates ensure a more &#8216;nutritionally complete&#8217; meal but these nutrients also have the effect of slowing down the absorption rate of the carbohydrates, which allows a more sustained release of glucose into the bloodstream and therefore a reduced insulin response.</p>
<p>Quite often people will have a piece of fruit, a diet yoghurt or a low-fat muffin for their mid-morning or mid-afternoon meal in their quest to lose body fat. Unfortunately, these foods alone don&#8217;t provide an adequate amount of all the nutrients required by the body and may also cause a rapid rise in blood glucose, halting fat loss in its tracks!</p>
<p>As a result, these foods should only be consumed with other foods to ensure a complete meal. For example, have a piece of fruit with some nuts, mix a small amount of cottage cheese with the yoghurt (it doesn&#8217;t taste that bad- honest!) or have a low-fat muffin with a protein shake.</p>
<p>From this information it is safe to conclude that following a diet based on the Food Pyramid or Australian Guide to Healthy Eating perhaps isn&#8217;t the best way to assist our fat-loss efforts. Furthermore, a big question to ask yourself is this:</p>
<p>&#8216;Since the Food Pyramid was designed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), do their interest lie in looking after our health or in supporting the economy?&#8217;</p>
<p>[NOTE: The base of the Food Pyramid recommends 6-11 serves a day of high density, mostly high GI, refined, grain-based carbohydrates.]</p>
<p>In summary, your fat-loss efforts will be greatly improved by consuming carbohydrates in the following way:</p>
<p>• Eat smaller, more frequent meals.<br />
• Reduce your portion size of carbohydrate without eliminating it.<br />
• Ensure all meals contain portions of carbohydrate, protein, fat and fibre.<br />
• Slow the passage of glucose into the bloodstream by emphasising low-density and low GI carbohydrates.</p>
<p>If you make an effort to ensure these recommendations are followed every day, you can literally watch the fat melt off your body! Go for it!</p>

When selecting which is the right weight loss pills you need to consult your doctor and find out where your main problem lies. Are you always hungry and craving for food? Or is it that you exercise control over your food intake but still fail to lose weight because you have a lot of fat stored already? You need to determine the cause for gaining weight before selecting a pill.</p>
<p>Find out which is the safest</p>
<p>Once you know the cause of gaining weight, for example excess hunger, you have narrowed down your search for pills. Let&#8217;s say the reason for overweight in your case is you always keep on eating because you always feel hungry, you have narrowed down your search to only those pills that suppress hunger. What is it?</p>
<p>When you say Cabbage Soup Diet, it essentially means a modified form of fasting. There is really nothing magical about the cabbage soup in itself, what does the trick is the low-calorie nature of the plan. Dieters will eat only a few calories to let them lose weight rapidly.</p>
<p>According to Connie Diekman, Med, RD, American Dietetic Association (president-elect), the positive aspect of this plan is that people might eat more vegetables. There is a list of what you need to eat everyday for one week. And because you can&#8217;t find these meals in restaurant menus, it&#8217;s best to eat it at home.</p>
<p>Sample Diet Plan</p>
<p>Day 1 &#8211; Cabbage soup and fruit can be eaten as many as you want (except bananas). Then drink water, cranberry juice, black coffee, or unsweetened tea.</p>
<p>Day 2 &#8211; Cabbage soup and low-calorie vegetables can be eaten as many as you want (except corn, peas, or beans). You can also consume baked potato with butter.</p>
<p>Day 3 &#8211; Cabbage soup can be eaten as many as you want. And then add any mixture of fruits and vegetables (except the ones mentioned above).</p>
<p>Day 4 &#8211; Cabbage soup as many as you want and up to 8 bananas. You can also drink 2 glasses of skimmed milk.</p>
<p>Day 5 &#8211; Take cabbage soup and not more than 20 ounces of fish, chicken, or beef. You can also eat up to 6 fresh tomatoes and drink water from 6-8 glasses.</p>
<p>Day 6 &#8211; Eat unlimited vegetables and cabbage soup and not more than 3 beef steaks.</p>
<p>Day 7 &#8211; You can eat unlimited vegetables and cabbage soup, brown rice (only 2 cups or less), and unsweetened fruit juices.</p>
<p>How it Works?</p>
<p>In principle, the diet works on low caloric intake. Danbrot makes a claim that by giving you specific guidelines of what to eat for 7 days, your fat and calorie content will be very low without sacrificing the vital nutrients of the body. The working agents in this diet are phytochemicals and antioxidants. Danbrot further says that the soup has no &#8220;magic&#8221; ingredients &#8211; the combination of &#8220;superfoods&#8221; make the weight disappear.</p>
<p>In addition, she mentions that this diet is never designed to substitute good nutrition. It is just meant to run for 7 days, and after that you have to abandon it for the next 2 weeks before you can use it again. The periodic break should be observed in order to replenish other body nutrients as well as develop good eating habits.</p>

A lipid profile will give you a detailed break-up of the various kinds of cholesterol in your body, and your doctor can medicate you accordingly. You will need to go on an empty stomach in the morning (after a 10 to 12 hour fast) for a lipid profile blood test, or results may be inaccurate.</p>
<p>If your cholesterol is high, you may prefer to stay off medication and try and reduce the levels through lifestyle changes. Although this is commendable, medication is very effective and can help lower cholesterol to a great degree &#8211; thus tremendously reducing your chances of a heart attack. In fact it has often been suggested that practitioners should prescribe cholesterol-lowering drugs more regularly than they do.</p>
<p>These drugs should be used in combination with diet and exercise.</p>
<p><strong>Exercise</strong></p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to run the marathon to be heart-healthy, but some form of exercise for at least half an hour, a minimum of four times a week, helps keep your heart fit. Even a brisk walk around the block does the trick, as long as you ensure you walk at such a pace so as to increase your heart rate &#8211; and hold that pace for around 25 minutes. Swimming is also provides a great cardiovascular workout.</p>
<p><strong>Diet</strong></p>
<p>If you still haven&#8217;t started calling for double-toned or skimmed milk, do so now. You don&#8217;t need all that extra fat in your body! Stay away from cookies, they are filled with &#8216;maida&#8217; and butter. Similarly, skip the butter on your toast and stay away from pizzas topped with cheese. Opt for tomato-based pastas when eating out.</p>

<p>The report has been published in the December issue of Current Anthropology. The <strong>hormones</strong> that make women physically stronger, more competitive and better able to deal with stress<br />
also tend to redistribute fat from the hips to the waist, according to Elizabeth Cashdan, an anthropologist at the University of Utah.<br />

So in societies and situations where women are under pressure to procure resources, they may be less likely to have the classic hourglass figure.</p>
<p>Cashdan&#8217;s hypothesis aims to explain a peculiar observation. Women around the world tend to have larger waist-to-hip ratios”more cylindrical rather than hourglass-shaped bodies”than is considered optimal.</p>
<p>Medical studies have shown that a curvy waist-to-hip ratio of 0.7 or lower is associated with higher fertility and lower rates of chronic disease. Studies have also shown that men prefer a ratio of 0.7 or lower when looking for a mate.</p>
<p>The preference makes perfect sense, according to evolutionary psychologists, because the low ratio is a reliable signal of a healthy, <strong>fertile woman</strong>.</p>
<p>But in data that Cashdan compiled from 33 non-Western populations and 4 European populations, the average waist-to-hip ratio for women is above 0.8. If 0.7 is the magic number both in terms of health and male mate choice, why are most women significantly higher? That&#8217;s where the hormones come in.</p>
<p>Androgens, a class of hormones that includes testosterone, increase waist-to-hip ratios in women by increasing visceral fat, which is carried around the waist. But on the upside, increased androgen levels are also associated with increased strength, stamina, and competitiveness. Cortisol, a hormone that helps the body deal with stressful situations, also increases fat carried around the waist.</p>
<p>&#8220;The hormonal profile associated with high WHR (waist-to-hip ratio) may favour success in resource competition, particularly under stressful circumstances,&#8221; writes Cashdan.</p>
<p>&#8220;The <strong>androgenic effects</strong>”stamina, initiative, risk-proneness, assertiveness, dominance”should be particularly useful where a woman must depend on her own resources to support herself and her family, the expert added.</p>
<p>In other words, trading the benefits of a thin waist for better ability to collect resources may be a good deal in certain societies and situations. And there is evidence that male mate preferences may reflect this trade-off, according to Cashdan. </p>

Method of treatment<br />
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water<br />
