Please do, I know at times voting can be inconvient to your daily activities as women usually have far more to do than men. But remember many women fought and suffered long and hard to get the vote. WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE
This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers, as they lived only 90 years ago. It was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.
The women were innocent and defenseless. And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden’s blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of “obstructing sidewalk traffic.”
They beat Lucy Burn, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air. They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cell mate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.
Thus unfolded the “Night of Terror” on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse inVirginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson’s White House for the right to vote.
For weeks, the women’s only water came from an open pail. Their food–all of it colorless slop–was infested with worms. When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.
So, refresh my memory. Some women won’t vote this year because–why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work? Our vote doesn’t matter? It’s raining?
Last week, I went to a sparsely attended screening of HBO’s new movie “Iron Jawed Angels.” It is a graphic depiction of the battle these women waged so we Women have the right to vote.
All these years later, voter registration is still my passion. But the actual act of voting had become less personal for me, more rote. Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege.
HBO released the movie on video and DVD. I wish all history, social studies and government teachers would include the movie in their curriculum. We are not voting in the numbers that we should be, and I think a little shock therapy is in order.
It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn’t make her crazy.
The doctor admonished the men: “Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.”
Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know.
We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party – remember to vote. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m worried about the cost, as I know we can’t afford it. I have been getting infections for some time now, years, but haven’t had my teeth taken care of largely because we can’t afford it. It’s easy to say just make payment arrangements assuming you can afford or manage the payments. We don’t make enough to qualify for financing and make too much for social services to pay for it, so that pretty much leaves me with regular infections. Currently, I have yet another infection which is down the side of my face, part of my neck and my face is swollen, so my dh is taking me to a walk in for me to get antibiotics again, sigh. It’s this story here the worries me http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20071130/dental_071130/20071202?hub=Health … hope I’m not the next case of this. To complicate matters because of medical problems, most reg. dentists won’t do the work, so I have to go see a oral surger w/ hospital priv. and no it isn’t cover by AHC or medical ins. I’m planning on making a trip to the dentist to take care of some cavities I think I have. I don’t want to ask him this question in person: “Do you think professional whitening can whiten my teeth? I don’t think they’re yellow because of stains. I think it’s due to repeated exposure to acid.”
Would it be useless to ask about whitening? My teeth are very yellow. I suspect that a lot of the enamel has worn away over the years, which probably contributes to the cavities.
I’m very worried about the health of my teeth. I don’t think they’re that healthy… Read the rest of this entry »

Hi, I’m 2 1/2 months pregnant and been having weird dreams that I can remember. I have 2 boys already and had weird dreams with them as well while pregnant. Why is that? Sometimes I’m afraid to sleep because I’m afraid of having a nightmare. Also I’m dreading the deadly leg cramps while I sleep too, but that won’t happen until I’m around 7 months if memory serves correctly. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi,
I have a dentist appt. set up because I chipped my tooth for some reason, I was using my sonic care tooth brush at the time, but for the last while had noticed sensitivity.
Anyhow, all of a sudden while rinsing there was a piece of tooth, at first I didn’t know where it came from.
It is close to the front, gumline, and about the size of two sesame seeds. It just broke off. Now it is sensitve as hell.
What do you think they will do? Will they crown it or just fill it? Yikes! I go to the dentist 2X a year for check ups and cleanings, but this really has me freaked out. Read the rest of this entry »
I have some really weird canines! My first were normal, but then my others started to come in (Before i lost the first) they are higher up, almost touching the top of my mouth. They are REALLY pointy, and longer then my first? Oh and I don’t care if you don’t believe in vampires. And i don’t think I am one, I just think that maybe something happened.
