Will My Dentist Think I Don’t Take Care Of My Teeth?

Okay, first off, I am twenty years old. During my childhood, I had lousy dental care, and in middle school my dentist was a quack. He gave me a root canal and never filled it so part of my tooth broke off and it’s hollow! Not only that, I have 2 visible cavities and my wisdom teeth are coming in!
I’ll admit that in elementary school I didn’t take care of my teeth the best that I should, but once I got to middle school, I tried really well, and started brushing 2 or my times a day once I turned fourteen.
I don’t eat a lot of sugar, I’m vegetarian, and only drink water (I NEVER drink soda). I think I just have week anamel(?) or something.
I’m going to the dentist soon, and I’m worried that he/she will scold me and accuse me of not taking care of my teeth when I do. I guess it’s my fear of dentists that’s getting to me, and I haven’t been since I was about thirteen…
Any ways to overcome this fear? Read the rest of this entry »

2 Year Old’s Teeth Loose After Fall?

My daughter fell 6 days ago hurting her lips and gums. The teeth seemed ok and after talking to her pediatrician I was assured that the swelling will subside quickly and the gums will be fine. I checked them everyday, and even though I couldn’t tell if they were loose or not I decided to take her to a dentist. He said that it is very common and the teeth, if cared for properly, usually become firm again in a week or so.
Does anyone have a similar experience? What was the outcome? A bit calmer today I took a better look and saw that they are indeed loose. It scared me! She is too young to lose her front teeth. Read the rest of this entry »

Question For The Women Here: Will You Vote?

I got this by email and all women should read it:
This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.
Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.
The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking
for the vote.
(Lucy Burns)
And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden’s blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of ‘obstructing sidewalk traffic.’ They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.
(Dora Lewis)
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cell mate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.
Thus unfolded the ‘Night of Terror’ on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson’s White House for the right to vote. For weeks, the women’s only water came from an open pail. Their food–all of it colorless slop–was infested with worms.
(Alice Paul)
When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press. http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/
So, refresh my memory. Some women won’t vote this year because- -why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work?
Our vote doesn’t matter? It’s raining?
Last week, I went to a sparsely attended screening of HBO’s new movie ‘Iron Jawed Angels.’ It is a graphic depiction of the battle
these women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling booth and have my say. I am ashamed to say I needed the reminder.
All these years later, voter registration is still my passion. But the actual act of voting had become less personal for me, more rote. Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege. Sometimes it was inconvenient.
My friend Wendy, who is my age and studied women’s history, saw the HBO movie, too. When she stopped by my desk to talk about it, she looked angry. She was–with herself. ‘One thought kept coming back to me as I watched that movie,’ she said. ‘What would those women think of the way I use, or don’t use, my right to vote? All of us take it for granted now, not just younger women, but those of us who did seek to learn.’ The right to vote, she said, had become valuable to her ‘all over again.’
HBO released the movie on video and DVD . I wish all history, social studies and government teachers would include the movie in their curriculum. I want it shown on Bunco and Bingo night, too, and anywhere else women gather. I realize this isn’t our usual idea of socializing, but we are not voting in the numbers that we should be, and I think little shock therapy is in order.
It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn’t make her crazy.
The doctor admonished the men: ‘Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.’
We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party – remember to vote.

I have really bad teeth, but they have been getting better, and I know this from my dentist. at my last visit she said they were looking better, no cavities, but I have a million on watch.
this is what I do for my teeth now.
I brush them with Colgate Advanced clean for about 3 minutes.
then I floss with the reach flosser.
the I use mouthwash, and I use Advanced Listerine and mix my Periomed into it.
wait 30 minutes.
then I re-brush with floridex, which has 1.1% sodium flouride in it.
then wait 30 minutes before eating/drinking anything.
I do this morning and night and use a sonicare.
is this a good tooth health care plan, or should I be doing something different? Read the rest of this entry »

How Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Feel About Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, Particularly Breast Enhancement/enlargement?

I know the jehovah’s witnesses say that their religion makes it a rule for them to not tattoo or pierce their bodies.
Recently some jehovah’s witnesses rang my doorbell and when I answered the door there were 2 women. One of the ladies was in her mid 30′s and her breasts were surgically stacked higher than Pamela Anderson in her prime. I know for a fact that the lady that I saw had surgically enhanced, unnatural breasts, because I have seen in person with clothes on and clothes off, and touched and felt enough real and fake breasts to be able to tell the difference. I also have some friends that are girls with fake breasts, and I have a friend who is a board certified plastic surgeon who has told me all the ways you can tell if a girl has surgically enhanced breasts. The jehovah’s witness lady that I saw definitely paid money for some doctor to blow up her body. Read the rest of this entry »

Post-operation Care For Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

I had eight teeth removed yesterday (4 impacted wisdom teeth and 4 teeth for bracing). Is it normal to still taste blood in the mouth? I do not think the wounds are bleeding very much, but the consistent taste of blood is worrying me.
I rinsed my mouth a few times yesterday – several times using plain water after food and several times using the mouthwash they gave me. I read online, however, that it is generally not advised for the patient to rinse their mouth during the first 24 hours. Do you think the rinsing I did will affect the wounds very much? I did not rinse very hard though. I just kept the water in my mouth and moved my head instead of really gargling.
The wounds are giving me little problems though. There is swelling but very little pain so far. I am still worried because eight teeth pulled at the same time is a lot to me. Any advice on post-operation care is appreciated. Read the rest of this entry »
