Cosmetic Surgery On The Nhs?
I am a twenty six year old woman whi, due to breastfeeding and loosing weight is very unhappy with her figure. My breasts still measure a 36c but they are wrinkled and very soft and saggy, when i bend over they fall out of my bra as there is noyhing to keep them in. When i lie down they actually become inverted, and the skin looks like a scrotum. I went to the doctors yesterday and sat crying as i explained that i keep a top on to make love and actually have a special bra that i wear in the bath as if i see them i burst into tears. I cry about it all the time and is affecting my life so badley it is all i think about, please don’t think i am vain, i also have loose skin and stretch marks on my tummy but i like these as i feel like they are feminin but i feel like i have lost my femininity with my breasts. Anyway the doctor said that breast surgery is not available on the NHS and i would just ‘have to learn to live with it’, i am sure that i have heared otherwise though.
I’m so sorry you feel so bad i went through the same thing some years ago and i was turned down for surgery they just don’t do it on NHS. I was depressed and didn’t feel like a women at all. I was told my breast shape would change as i got older which didn’t help, how was i going to cope for years with my horrid boobs That was 15 years ago and to be honest i don’t know where all the years have gone. My boobs did get there shape back but i don’t remember when. They are bigger now then they have ever been and look better then when i was pregnant. I have put weight on as i got older and that’s about it. I was unhappy for a long time and couldn’t afford surgery. There wasn’t anything i could do but put up with them it’s unfare how we have to go through such a change and loose our shape when our husbands stay the same. I hope you get the advise you need good luck.
You can get breast augmentation on the nhs yes, it is mostly given to recovering anorexics or people who have had accidents, it is very hard to get as im sure you can see the nhs do not look at it as urgent or even needed practise, you are basically asking them to give you an operation that you don’t need. I’m sure it must be hard for you and this is obviously affecting your life alot so maybe you may have to consider paying yourself. It is not that expensive there are prices from £3000 upward and alot of places offer finance. Go to a different doctor for a second opinion, i know they have to have you evaluated by a psychiatrist before they can make a decision
if you want cosmetic surgery pay for it yourself, why should the rest of us pay! we all have insercurities and things we don’t like and most of us would love some free cosmetic surgery but unortunatly thats not the case. So if your really serious save up, get a loan! But don’t waste everybody elses money!
iv heard that you can only get breast reduction on the nhs, maybe some counselling to help you with your self esteem might help xx
EDIT: i totally understand how you feel my body has gone the same because of having a child and my weight going up and down. but I’m in counselling and it does help, i cant explain to you how much i hate my body but if you can try the counselling then if you feel the same way afterwards then go back to your GP maybe the counsellor could write you a supportive letter xx
This kind of breast surgery is available on the NHS but it depends on the area you live in as to whether it’s funded by your PCT. Your GP has probably referred you for counselling first, as surgery is quite a drastic step and the scarring from a mastopexy (uplift) can be extensive and can have a dramatic psychological impact. If, after a few counselling sessions, you feel you still want the surgery, go back to your GP.
And to the person who said the money should be spent on broken limbs and heart attacks – each speciality has its own budget, and one isn’t compromised in any way by another speciality. Also, if this surgery wasn’t available on the NHS then plastic surgery would become largely unregulated and breast reconstruction after mastectomy would have to be done privately by god knows who.
Good luck
The NHS is struggking to find money to help people with broken limbs and heart attacks. Unlikely they will fund a boob job for you.
