How Would You Feel If You Went To An Ob And There Were Ads For Cosmetic Surgery Everywhere?

I went to my OB for my second prenatal appointment today. His waiting room was playing a video about smart liposuction last time I came in. It wasn’t a coincidence, it was playing again this time. There are very few pamphlets or handouts in his office about childbirth or women’s health. There are hundreds of ads about hair removal, wrinkle reduction, Botox, liposuction, and other various cosmetic procedures. My husband mentioned that I guess this Dr must have a family member who is a plastic surgeon and advertises for him in an OB office where everyone is paranoid about their weight gain and how they look. Good target audience, he said. After you have a baby, you feel bad about how you look and get cosmetic procedures done. I noticed today that my OB is actually certified to do some of these procedures. So the advertisements are for him. He has more credentials on the wall pertaining to cosmetic procedures then to Obstetrics and Gynecology. I think I have decided after today that I am going to find a different OB, one that has more experience with delivering babies then with doing Botox. What do you pregnant ladies think?

You have every right to keep switching doctors until you find one that will fit your needs/wants/criteria. As for a Dr. that seems more interested in cosmetic surgery than babies, I would probably switch too.
I first saw an OB dr. for only 2 times. He never took a urine sample from me, even though I had told him I had been peeing a lot and I didnt feel right. He had so many patients, and was so rushed in and out of exam rooms, it didnt feel like he really cared about ME. After I got on army insurance and switched doctors, right away (without me even having to take a urine test) my new doctor said I probably had a UTI, and ordered the test. Had I not switched doctors, the infection could have gone unnoticed for who knows how long (months? my whole pregnancy?), and could have caused harm to my baby!
When you are in doubt, go with your gut feeling. Perhaps ask friends or neighbors in your area about doctors/ob/gyn that they feel comfotable going to.

At my doctor’s office there is also a lot of info on lipo and other plastic surgeries that one of the doctors in the office performs. I could honestly care less. It doesn’t offend me or make me sad to see these things at all. I think it is smart on there part because women who have children are the ones that are likely to get lipo and tummy tucks.

I would change docs. I would want a doc that delivers babies or helps with the general related body part and no other interests.
BUT
Malpractice insurance on deliveries drives doctors this direction.
I’ve gotten some quacks in the past – I check them all out now.

Not pregnant at the moment, but yikes! I would dump him.

I think he’s money hungry. He can either see patients once a year or he can get them to come in every month or four for some procedure. It’s probably more profitable to do the cosmetic stuff, pure and simple. I went to an ophthalmologist once who also did some cosmetic stuff and I just happened to have an appointment on Botox day. There was a line out the door at that place before his earliest 8 am appointment. It was madness!
I’d be looking for a new doc too.
