How Do You Take Care Of Capped Teeth?
I had a childhood accident that pushed my tooth back into my gums. My mom wouldnt let me have it pulled out and use braces, so they had it capped instead. years later, the original tooth started turning black and bleeding – we got it changed and the current cap is very cool, the tooth doesnt bleed anymore. Just last week 2 growth-like ‘boils’ appeared on the growth above the capped tooth but it doesnt hurt. Can anyone tell me what this is all about? I’m yet to visit the dentist but I’d like to know what I can do before i go.
thanks!

you might try putting some hydrogen peroxide (buy at drug store)on the boils with a q tip. The area wil bubble a little bit – then rinse. If this doesn’t work after a few trys, you’ll have to face the inevitable and go to the dentist.
Those boils are called fistulas. its a draining infection
two possible scenarios
A. you have has a root canal and it has failed.
You can have it surgically repaired by an endodontist
or you can get the crown cut off and redo the root canal throught the tooth
B. You have not had the root canal and the dentist put the crown on anyway. Then you have to have the crown cut off and do a proper root canal.
wow sounds to me like an infection of some kind….i dont think infections need to “hurt” to be there….i have 7 caps in my mouth and never had that happen before without there being an infection but you never know
There is no special care to be taken for capped teeth. As a dentist, I can tell one thing- take care of the capped tooth as you would for a normal tooth. brush twice daily and massage gums gently.
