I’d be around to fetch things for him. The pain pills are quite good at killing pain, but can bring on other side effects. When I take them after oral surgery, I like to stay still in a quiet place and be waited on
Be aware that he might become auditorally defensive, that is, all noises seem loud. That regularly happens to me after oral surgery with narcotics, not sure that it is all that common though. Or he could be nauseated or dizzy– this is a very common one.
A really helpful thing you can do is to encourage him to eat. I know I usually don’t really want to eat much after oral surgery, but it is so important!! You need to eat a just a couple of bites of something like every hour or so, even if you don’t feel like it. It helps with both healing and nausea.
And then there is rest! He may not want to sleep per say, but just sit quietly, or he may want to just konk out and nap like a napping maniac. Depends on how he is feelign and how the pain pills act on him.
Timing his pain pills doseage is nice, too. At the beginning he’ll want to stay on a pretty strict schedule of pain pills, and not wait till theres discomfort. The next couple days he should be able to self-direct and not be on a strict schedule, but the first day or two he will want pretty continuous coverage.
I’ve had a couple surgeries recently, and getting 3rd molars removed was truely the worst. But still, it wasn’t bad at all. It’ll just take him a couple of days, and he will be tottering around just fine.
He’ll be fine, don’t worry!
i just got mine out too and let me be the first to tell you it hurts SOO bad!!! ive been sleeping alot, that helps. Also i put ice packs on both sides of my face. Make sure hes taking all the pain medicine prescribed. and make him some soft foods!! soup, jello, applesauce things like that have been wha ive been eating. good luck!
