Caring For Your Child’s Teeth?
I see so many answers/questions on here that shock me. Like start brushing at age 2. Don’t see the dentist till they are 3.
I started brushing my kids teeth (with the Kidz Pre-Step toothpaste) when the first one came in. I take my kids to the dentist every 6 months starting at one year old. This is what the Canadian Pediatric Society recommends.
So my questions are:
How old are your kids?
When did you start brushing their teeth?
How many times a day do you do it?
When did they go to the dentist the first time?
How frequently do they go?
Do they have any cavities?
I am just curious what other people do. Thanks for your time!!

I’m pregnant with my first, so I don’t have any experience taking kids to the dentist yet.
However, I also read that you’re supposed to take your kids to the dentist as soon as they get teeth, not when they’re 3! I answered a question on here once saying I heard you’re supposed to go to the dentist when teething begins, and I got a million thumbs down.
Us Canadians must have different instructions!
My daughter will be 3 next month
Started brushing as soon as she got her first tooth at 6.5 months
I brush hers twice a day
She has been to the dentist once and that was at the start of the year once she had her full set of teeth through
Dentist said she will see her back in a year
No, she has perfect teeth, beautifully straight/white and healthy
4″on Sat” and 4 mths
I used a warm wash clothe on both of them and started brushing my 4 yrs with baby tooth paste as soon as she got her first teeth!
after ever feeding.
Our dentist would only look at her teeth at the age of 3,cleanings at 4 1/2
she’ll be going every 6 mths
no cavities!
I also don’t let her drink sodas, and water down her juice”very rarely gets sweets!”
1. 13 months
2. actually brushed gums with the gum brush got a kit that had stages for oral hygiene.
3. morning and night
4. haven’t gone to dentist yet…but i am making an appointment
5. how ever many time my dentist says is neccessary
6. Sure Hope not
- My son is 13 months old
- We started brushing when the first tooth came in (before that we used a clean towel to clean his gums and tongue)
- We do it twice a day. In the morn and before bed
- We have yet to visit the dentist. Prolly soon.
- No cavities
13 months today
started when he got his first tooth. i used just water at first but now i use gerber grins and giggles tooth cleaner for infants
2 times a day
hasent been yet
no cavities. only has 6 front teeth
I have a 2 yr old and I am a dental assistant. A baby should start by having his gums brushed even before they get teeth, then as they get teeth you should just get a finger brush,no paste and clean their teeth for them.as they get to be able to hold a brush let them help you brush but you make sure it is a small soft brush. My son had a full set of teeth by age 1 so he saw the dentist at 15 months. Just make sure to keep the bottle out of the lil ones mouth at night or most likly they will get baby bottle tooth decay and yes they can get cavities at age 2. just remember they dont need big people paste till they know better than not to swallow it.
my boys are 18 months and 9 weeks
i started maybe a month after the 2nd one came in.
i regret i only brush them once a day because i am so busy, but i can hand him the brush and he will do an ok job on his own
he has not been to the dentist yet, i did ask my mom’s dentist, and he said there was no need yet. i thought that was odd.
i hope to take them every 6-12 months once they start going. i am one of those wierd people who like the dentist and want them to have good experiences.
they have no cavities, and either do i (i’m 31). but their daddy has bad teeth, and he will tell you it is because he didn’t take care of them when he was young.
my son is 19 months and i brushed his gums before he had teeth ( which he got his first at 9 months)- twice a day
he ahs not been to the dentist because i asked them when i should take him and they said 3 yrs because they can not do anything and most of the kids flip out- all they do is count the teeth which i can do myself- they said if there is no problem then they would prefer to wait until the kdi will actually sit there adnd keep their mouth open andd not bite their fingers- my son has beautiful teeth. they also can’t do x-rays until at least about 7 until their mouths are big enough
and no- my son does not have any cavities- i did not get one until this past year:(
9 1/2 months
At 4 1/2 months when his first two teeth appeared
Started at once at night, but switched to morning and night after 6 months because he was eating a lot of different things and more teeth were coming in.
He went to the dentist once to get a fluoride coating on his teeth because I refuse to let him drink fluoride water. Fluoride coating on the teeth is proven to be less harmful and more effective then consuming it in bottled or tap water.
My son has no cavities…. he is only 9 1/2 months old, and has 6 teeth total.
I live in the US and when I asked my pediatrician when he should go to the dentist, she said that they were advised to say at about 3-4 years. I said that seemed pretty old to me, and she agreed with me…. so my son will continue to go to the dentist.
I unfortunately grew up without dental care, thank god I have good oral Hygiene, but still, I feel fortunate enough to offer this my son and I am going to take advantage of our dental plan!!!!
i dont have any kids
