Cavities are caused by the acids that the bacteria in your mouth produce when they metabolize the foods you eat. If you eat foods high in sugar/carbs you will have more acids. If the foods are sticky, the acids will stick around for even longer. A sugary drink causes your mouth to be more acidic for up to 20 min. A snack can cause more acidity for up to 40 min. It can actually last for up to 2 hours if you were to fall asleep after eating without brushing/flossing. Think about your diet. Try to stay away from sugary foods/drinks. If you do eat them, try to brush after – or at the very least, rinse vigorously. Remember to brush AND floss every night before bed. It would also be a great idea to use a fluoride rinse (such as Act or Fluoriguard) right before bed. Rinse for one minute – do not swallow any – do not rinse after, and go to bed. Fluoride strengthens the teeth. And make sure you are visiting your dentist at least every 6 months (or what he/she recommends) for an exam and cleaning.

Do you visit the dentist regularly? As much as you brush and floss you still should go and get a cleaning. There are some things brushing and flossing can not do.
