What Should I Go About Doing To Fix My Teeth?

My family has a pretty poor dental history and I’m no exception to this. I’m an 18 year old male and am very self conscious over my teeth.
I’ve had a lot of cavities over time and that certainly doesn’t help. I guess I didn’t take good enough care of my teeth as I was younger. But now I brush two to three times a day, use mouthwash etc etc. I try really hard to take care of my teeth now but I can’t get them white enough. I think it’s because of extensive dental work in my past but I just can’t the top teeth to become white. They’re always just very off white and a little yellow and discolored.

Not only that but I always have very crooked top teeth. Do you think it would be advisable at 18 to get some braces? Is it still very possible to fix my crooked teeth with braces now?
What should I do that wouldn’t cost a ton of money? I’d love to get veneers but I doubt I could afford it and I’m sure insurance doesn’t cover that sort of thing.
Thanks :)

Yes you can get braces (make sure any cavities are fixed first though) veneers could both straighten your teeth and whiten as you can pick any color you like, you can bleach your teeth most people get some whitening the most effective is Zoom and dentist prescribed bleach, existing white filling will not bleach so you may have to replace once bleaching is done. I noticed you did’nt mention flossing which is very important as most cavities begin in between teeth, Glide is my fave. Insurance does not cover veneers (dental ins is not the best anyway) Venners are between $800 to $1200 each, you can pay for braces over time though. Good luck!

as for the yellowish color, i use baking soda after i brush my teeth once a month and it works quite well!

my sister got braces when she was 17, you need whitening gel to make your teeth white, and avoid coffee and smoking. I think pure white teeth look fake any way

No one is too old for braces. I work for an orthodontist and we have patients in their 60′s with braces. Some insurance companies will pay a portion of the treatment, so I would look into it.

invisiline rather than braces if i were you… but you can wear braces at any age.
as for color i use crest whitening strips once every 6 months for 2 wks and they do the trick for me.
veneers are fairly expensive and are only covered if you have taken serious damage and its after a tooth has been repaired.

Keep up with the good oral hygiene, get a dentist or hygienist to show you the correct way to floss. You are still young, you still have your teeth, believe me there are a lot of options. If you think your teeth are crooked then you can visit an orthodontist. Having braces though is not easy (it hurts).

Sounds like you are very serious about getting dental work done and that is commendable even at 18!
To help you save on some of the cost of your dental work that you need done, maybe try looking into a dental plan. I have a dental discount plan and it really helps me save on my dental services, maybe it can assist you http://www.wehavebenefits.com

I was going to suggest invisaline too. And orthodontists generally off payment plans.
Also, most orthodontists offer a free consultation and can give you details/pricing then.
