Requesting Off From Work After Having Wisdom Teeth Removed?

I’m having my wisdom teeth removed next month. I’m a mother of two and I also work part time. My husband is taking his vacation time that same week so he can take care of me and the kids while I recover. I was wondering how long should I request off from work? I’m a cashier at a grocery store so if I’m not fully recovered I don’t want to go back to work. How long did it take you before you went back to work or school?

I usually only took a few days off…until the major swelling went down & I wasn’t drooling everytime I tried to speak! I had mine removed one at a time many many years ago…with a local anesthetic of marcaine & lidocaine…followed by an oral antibiotic—just to make certain I didn’t end up with a nasty infection!
You might need more time if all 4 are coming out at once…You won’t be in the best of moods to deal with people. Perhaps a week if you can get it….that’s my suggestion.
*Edit: I had the most problems with my top wisdom tooth & ended up with a sinus infection…it’s the major reason why I insisted on anti-biotics with the other 3! Talk to your Dentist before you get started. Get the perscription & take the antibiotics for at least 10 days…not the 3 that many dentists try to give you, as that’s just useless & a waste of cash to get a 3 day supply!

It depends how complicated it is. If your have to remove 4 teeth and a lot of bone to cut then the pain will last longer. Also, it depends of your body how high/ low your tolerance to the pain. Usually, in term of average people can control the pain without medication, is around the 3-4 days. Try to choose a friday appointment so you will have the weekend to rest up, you don’t really need to miss work for too long. One day after the surgery is OK, because they don’t want you to exercise too much because it will make the heart pumps and it is difficult to control bleeding.

3 days to be exact as recommended by the ADA.
