And what toothpaste is best for whiter teeth? I do not care about price as long as it does the job.

Rembrandt is the best. Also use mouthwash, and whitening strips

Mechanical brushing (cleaning) of teeth with the tooth-brush only is considered as enough. But we’re used to using those toothpastes containing fluoride an element needed for teeth. Also, recently produced toothpastes contain some whitening stuff that partially do the job.
You should go for your dentist and seek a main course of professional (scaling and curettage) of the gums in order to have healthy oral hygiene. This can be followed by chair side whitening (that is done at the clinic) or a course given by the dentist consisting of 10 days of application of the whitening material and this is to be done at night (while sleeping)
All this should be in addition to regular home care. Nothing can be done alone.

A healthy diet, rich in calcium! Don’t smoke, drink coffee, or red wine, basically avoid anything that stains your teeth. Floss daily! Don’t do drugs or grind your teeth!!!! A little boost of good genes helps too ;-)
