Is There A Type Of Retainer That Can Keep A Space In Your Teeth After Getting A Back Tooth Pulled?

I recently went to the dentist and he said i either needed a root canal or to get my one tooth pulled. Its in the back and you can’t see it when i smile. Also i do go to an orthodontist but my braces were taken off last year do you know if theres any type of retainer i could get that will just keep the space in place if i get it pulled i truely don’t care if i have one i just don’t want a root canal

They can put a flipper on your retainer. A flipper is a fake tooth that just chills on the wire or the plastic. It looks real, and it holds the space well.
The only downside is it’s expensive and you have to get a new retainer made.
Also, you can tell your ortho about it, and he may make you a new retainer that fits in the space to keep it from closing. You’ll still be missing your tooth visually, but your teeth won’t move back.

Root canals are ok but they cost alot (especially in Ireland), if you can get one done go for it. If not, there is a temporary filling you can get for teeth from the pharmacy, it isn’t very good but it will plug the gap for a while.
There is a chance the cavity will become infected if you do not do something with the tooth.

They may just want to save the tooth, if they can, but I think an extraction might be cheaper. I had a tooth pulled in the back of my mouth 2 years ago and they said I’d have to get an implant since the space is big enough. So far, my teeth haven’t shifted and I’ve been going to the dentist a lot in the process of getting porcelain veneers (on the 31st!). They said I can still wait to get an implant since my teeth haven’t shifted yet. As far as I know there isn’t a special retainer that will keep the space there. Maybe a crown or something? Also, you need to see an Oral Surgeon in order to have a tooth extracted.

Yes, Yes, Yes! I had one for 3 Years! Helped a lot! It’s just a piece of metal, and two circles that fit right on to your teeth, the metal is attached to them! No pain at all, you will talk fine there will be no difference! But don’t play with it! Mine broke twice, very sensitive! But don’t worry no root canal for you! You won’t be able to have gum or anything chewy! I had gum, but sadly I think that’s one of the reasons I think it broke! Hope I helped! Have fun! :)

I’m assuming the tooth in question is in between two back teeth. Obviously if it’s the last one you don’t need to worry about it, but there are space maintainers you could get. You wouldn’t want to keep it on too long, as they are hard to keep clean and you could develop a cavity around the banding.

My daughter had the same situation. She had a tooth pulled and her front teeth had a gap in them. The dentist advise that she wear a retainer all the time. When she took the retainer out her teeth had a gap in them again. I would suggest getting a false tooth put in to keep the teeth from getting a space in them.
