It doesn’t matter if you spend half your time brushing, flossing and rinsing. You *need* regular, professional treatment, such as x-rays, exams and cleanings. If you do not have these things done at regular intervals as your dentist/doctor suggest, you will have painful dental problems no matter what you do.
Seeing your dentist regularly is not a cosmetic elective option as society seems to regard it. It’s every bit as important to maintaining your health as seeing your doctor for regular physicals. I hope that someday this becomes the more common view of dental care. I have read too many stories about 20 somethings having to get dentures because they couldn’t get insurance and afford regular dental care. http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showt...

Even with proper brushing 2-3x daily and flossing at bedtime you still need to see a dentist for regular checkups / cleaning. You can still develop calculus (tartar) buildup with good home care and that can only be removed professionally.
