Wisdom Teeth – Dentist Opinion Required Please?

I pay privately in the UK to have my teeth cared for.
The problem is I have been advised to have my wisdom teeth out as I have had a problem with one of my ears for some time (roundabout the same time my wisdom teeth started pushing through).
Is this common and what procedure is involved for the extraction of wisdom teeth and how much is it likely to cost me?

Causes:
What is happening with you could be that your wisdom teeth are running into the teeth next to them or becoming blocked within the jawbone or gum tissue or the your jaws is unalbe to accommodate these four additional teeth anymore.
Symptoms:
Let me guess.. not only you have ear problems, you also have some pain at the back of the jaw and your neck muscles are sore sometimes… you probably also have prolonged headache and tenderness of the gums??
Treatment:
Dentists commonly recommend the removal of all wisdom teeth, preferably while the patient is still a young adult. A dentist may perform an extraction with forceps and local anesthetic if the tooth is exposed and appears to be easily removable in one piece. However, he or she may refer a difficult extraction to an oral surgeon, a specialist who administers either nitrous oxide-oxygen (commonly called “laughing gas”), an intravenous sedative, or a general anesthetic to alleviate any pain or discomfort during the surgical procedure.
Price:
Easy extraction: $100 to $300 per tooth. Surgical extraction: $500 to $1200 per tooth. Note that the dental school oral surgery department usually charge alot less (50% less or free sometimes if you qualify)
Hope that answer your question.

I am not sure on the cost as I left the uk 5 years ago. I am not a dentist but am a dental nurse so I know enough about it to advise you.
It is common for your wisdom teeth to cause all different types of problems when they start to push through, this being very common.
You can normally have your wisdom teeth taken out at your local dental surgery under a local aneasthetic or if you prefer under a light sedation. If you are worried about it or if it is slightly more complicated (i.e. curly roots etc) it can also be done in hospital under a general anaesthetic with an overnight stay.
But don’t worry about it, either way, it shouldn’t be a problem and will be over with before you can wonder what it was you were worried about in the first place.
